MANILA, Philippines — Aspiring voters who want to take part in the 2020 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls may want to ready their documents ahead as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to resume voter registration.
In a statement, the poll body reminded aspiring voters that they will resume voter registration on Aug. 1, which will end on Sept. 30.
Applications may be filed from Mondays to Saturdays, including holidays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Office of the Election Officer or any satellite registration site in the locality of where the registrant resides.
“The Commission will open the registration process on Saturdays and even holidays to allow more applicants to be accommodated, especially students and working people who may not have time during weekends,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Comelec has also mandated all election officers to set up at least one satellite registration of voters in their locality.
Such satellite registration sites may be set up in barangay halls/centers, public and private schools and universities, malls and commercial establishments, as those defined as “public and convenient spaces.”
With this, Jimenez said he hopes that the satellite registration sites will bring the registration process “closer to the people.”
The scheduled barangay and SK elections are scheduled on May 11, 2020. /muf
