A woman in Missouri, USA, managed to “steal” her car back from thieves, after locating them using her own sleuthing skills.
Danielle Reno’s vehicle was stolen while she was at a gas station last Tuesday, July 9, as per her Facebook post on July 11.
After finding out her car was stolen, Reno filed a formal report at a nearby police station. She then took matters into her own hands. She tracked purchases on her debit and credit cards, as well as the activity of her phone, which were all inside the stolen vehicle.
She later discovered her card was used at a gas station. Reno went straight there and asked the employees about her stolen car and the thieves. One attendant overheard her and told her the criminals had said they were heading to an Applebee’s branch.
Reno and her sister immediately went to the restaurant to catch the people responsible for the theft. Moments after she arrived, Reno saw the criminal walk into the establishment with her wallet and keys.
She then took advantage of the moment and sneaked out of the restaurant to steal her car back while the thief was busy. After getting her vehicle back, Reno notified the police of the development regarding her case.
Authorities arrived at the scene and arrested the suspected thief along with two others. They were charged with grand theft and possession of a stolen vehicle. They may also face charges regarding the use of Reno’s stolen credit cards.
In a separate update, Reno revealed that it took her two days of “non-stop stalking” to locate the thieves and get her car back. She also stated that the vehicle’s back door would not open and that it was full of “disgusting” items from the criminals. She did not elaborate. /ra
