LUCENA CITY—The military said government troops recovered two assault rifles from suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas after a clash in Tinambac town, Camarines Sur province on Sunday (July 14).

The Southern Luzon Command in Camp Nakar here said soldiers and policemen who were on patrol clashed with at least 10 NPA guerrillas at Barangay La Medalla in Tinambac.

Following the gunfight, which lasted for at least five minutes, troopers found two M-16 Armalite rifles, weapons commonly issued to government soldiers, believed to be left behind by the guerrillas.

No one was hurt on the government side and it was not known if the guerrillas suffered any casualty. DELFIN T. MALLARI JR./TSB
