Red lightning alert delays 20 Naia flights — Miaa

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 20 flights —both international and domestic — were delayed after a red lightning alert was issued at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) on Friday afternoon.

The Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) said the weather bureau issued the red lightning alert at 4:49 p.m.

It was downgraded to yellow alert at 5:29 p.m. and was lifted entirely at 5:37 p.m.

During a red lightning alert status, ramp movement for both aircraft and ground personnel are suspended as a safety measure as lightning is prevalent in the area.

Flights delays are to be expected when there is a prolonged red lightning alert, Miaa said. /ee
