MANILA, Philippines — The water level in Angat Dam dipped further Tuesday morning as it neared the dam’s critical level, data from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed.
According to Pagasa, the level water in Angat Dam was at 160.58 meters as of 6:00 a.m. Tuesday — lower than the dam’s water level on Monday morning which was reported at 161.01 meters.
Angat Dam’s water level is also only 0.58 meters above the dam’s critical level of 160 meters.
In June, the dam’s water level plunged below critical level due to lack of rainfall but later on recovered following Tropical Depression “Egay” and rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon.
Meanwhile, the water level in other dams in the country such as La Mesa Dam, Ambuklao Dam, San Roque Dam, Pantabangan Dam, Magat Dam, and Caliraya Dam also dipped.
Rotational water interruption
Due to the dipping water level in Angat Dam, Manila Water said the rotational water interruption affecting its consumers will persist.
“Patuloy pa ring ipinatutupad ng Manila Water ang schedule ng rotational water service interruption bawat araw sa mga lungsod at munisipalidad ng METRO MANILA EAST ZONE,” Manila Water said in a Facebook post.
Manila Water explained that the water allocation provided by the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) remains reduced.
“Ang mga service interruption na ito ay ginagawa para maipamahagi ang limitadong suplay ng tubig sa lahat ng aming mga customer, dahil nananatiling mas mababa ang alokasyon mula sa NWRB dala ng muling pagbaba ng antas ng Angat Dam,” Manila Water said. (Editor: Julie Espinosa)
