NGCP places Luzon grid under yellow alert for July 9

MANILA, Philippines — The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has placed the Luzon grid under yellow on Tuesday, July 9.

In an advisory, the NGCP said the yellow alert raised on the country’s largest grid takes effect from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Available capacity for the Luzon grid is at 11,172 megawatts, and its peak demand is at 10,466 megawatts.

“Details on the cause to be announced by the Department of Energy (DOE) later in the day,” the NGCP advisory read.

The NGCP on Monday placed the Luzon grid under yellow alert.

According to the DOE, a yellow alert is raised when “a grid’s reserve power—the difference between supply and demand—is below the required level.”

A yellow alert however does not lead to power outages, the DOE added. (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
