Sen. Lapid to study impeach rules on Christmas break

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Lito Lapid will use this Christmas break to study the rules of procedure that will be used in the impeachment trial of Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona, a statement from his office said.

The statement released Sunday said Lapid has always been conferring with his lawyers and legal consultants to study the rules so that he would be prepared when the  impeachment  trial for Corona formally opens  on January 16.

“Noon pa mang unang pagkakataong magkaka-impeachment trial sa Senado ay nakapaghanda na si Senator Lapid,” it said, referring to the  aborted impeachment proceeding for former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez, who resigned from her post.

“Ang Christmas break ay gugugulin nya sa muling pag-aaral ng nasabing rules of procedure,” the statement added.

Lapid, the  statement said, will decide without bias and based on evidence.
