7 students hurt as jeepney rams street lamp post in Cagayan
TUGUEGARAO CITY –– Seven students were injured after the passenger jeepney carrying them crashed into a street lamp post in Santo Niño, Cagayan on Tuesday, police said.
The victims, aged 11 to 15 years old, were on their way home when the accident happened, said Police Capt. Ranulfo Gabatin, Santo Niño police chief.
Investigators said jeepney driver Noel Ponte, 40, lost control of the steering wheel and rammed a street lamp post.
Gabatin said the jeepney was overloaded as it carried 30 passengers and the driver was drunk at the time of the accident. Villamor Visaya Jr. (Editor: Leti Boniol)
