MANILA, Philippines — One day into his new post as Pasig City mayor, Vico Sotto suspended the odd-even traffic scheme being implemented in the city.
Sotto said the suspension is included in the executive order he signed on Monday.
“First Executive Order signed… This executive order includes the suspension of the disjointed and unjust odd-even scheme,” Sotto said in a Facebook post.
Under this scheme, four-wheeled vehicles with license plate numbers ending in even numbers are not allowed to travel the roads covered by the rule every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Vehicles with license plates ending in odd numbers, meanwhile, are banned every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
After he took his oath of office as Pasig City mayor on Sunday, Sotto called other mayors in Metro Manila to work together to solve traffic problems in the metropolis.
“Marami kaming kailangang pag-usapan katulad ng traffic (We need to discuss a lot of things, including the traffic situation),” Sotto told reporters when asked if he has a message to other mayors of Metro Manila.
“‘Di yan kaya ng isang mayor lang na solusyonan ‘yan. Kailangan magtulungan ang mga mayor ng Metro Manila (It cannot be solved by one mayor alone. Metro Manila Mayors need to work together,” Sotto added. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
