MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Egay has remained almost stationary over northern Luzon as its strength is expected to dwindle in a few hours, the state weather bureau said midday Monday.
Egay was last spotted 195 kilometers east northeast of Aparri, Cagayan, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said. It packed maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph.
Signal No. 1 remained hoisted over Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands, according to Pagasa, adding Egay is expected to weaken into a low-pressure area within 12 to 24 hours.
The state weather bureau, however, noted that moderate to rough seas will prevail over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon in the next 24 hours.
Monsoon rains are expected over most of Luzon, including Metro Manila, and Western Visayas, while cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will be experienced over Caraga, Davao region, and the rest of Visayas, Pagasa also said. (Editor: Katherine G. Adraneda)
