MANILA, Philippines – The presence of television and movie star Vic Sotto, Kristine Hermosa and other members of the Sotto clan lit up the oath-taking ceremony of incoming Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto at the Pasig City Sports Center on Sunday.

The crowd roared when Vico’s father, Vic arrived at the venue and greeted his son’s supporters.

Vic also shook hands with Pasig City Representative Roman Romulo.

Vic arrival was immediately followed by Vico’s mother, actress Coney Reyes.

In his speech, Vico described the reaction of his parents when he told them about his decision to run as Pasig City’s mayor.

“Naalala ko pa noong una kong sinabi sa aking magulang para mayor, dalawang araw bago yung deadline para sa filing ng kandidatura. Una ko pong sinabihan ang aking nanay, kumakain kaming hapunan. Sabi ko, ‘Ma, nagdesisyon na kong tatakbo ako para mayor.’ Hinding-hindi ko makakalimutan ang mukha nya — halos mabulunan siya sa sinigang na baboy na kinakain namin,” (My mother almost choked when I told her over dinner that I decided to run for mayor),” Vico said, drawing laughter from the crowd.

Vico then described the reaction of his father when he told him about his decision over the phone — dead silence.

Vico told reporters after his oath taking that his parents are both proud of his achievements.

“Sabi nila they are very proud. Both of them said the same thing,” Vico told reporters at the Pasig City Hall following the oath -taking ceremony.

Also in attendance at the oath – taking ceremony were Vico’s half-brother Oyo Boy, with his wife Kristine Hermosa-Sotto, and half sister Danica who was with her husband,  professional basketball star Mark Pingris.

Oyo Boy and Danica are Vic Sotto’s children with actress Dina Bonnevie.
