Manila mayor-elect Isko Moreno: Persevere, stay positive

MANILA, Philippines – Manila mayor-elect Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Monday urged his constituents to have a positive outlook amid life’s difficulties and challenges.

On the 448th founding anniversary of the City of Manila, Domagoso said that the current generation should look behind on the challenges faced by their ancestors and use it to persevere in life.

“Hindi man naging madali ang bawat pagsubok ng panahon ngunit patuloy pa rin ang mga Manileño sa kanilang pagsumikap at paglaban para sa magandang kinabukasan ng mga salinlahi,” Domagoso said in a statement.

(There have been difficult situations that we faced, but them people of Manila remain undaunted and keep striving and fighting for a better future.)

“Ituring natin ang bawat pagsikat ng araw, ang bawat taong nagdadaan, at ang bawat panibagong simula bilang hudyat ng bagong pag-asa tungo sa pagkamit ng ating mga pangarap,” he added.

(Let us treat each sunrise, each year as signs of hope and reach for our dreams.)

“Sa kabila ng mga panibagong hamon, mahalaga na magkaisa tayo tungo sa tuloy-tuloy na pag-asenso ng bawat Manileño,” he added.

(Despite the  challenges, it is important that we remain united and work for the prosperity of every citizen of Manila.)

The former city councilor and vice mayor is set to assume office by July 1 after defeating incumbent mayor Joseph Estrada and former mayor Alfredo Lim in the midterm elections last May.

Moreno and Estrada recently met at the Manila City Hall to discuss a smooth turnover June 30. (Editor: Gilbert S. Gaviola)
