ANS bounces back, routs Blessed John
The Abellana National School (ANS)–Pomeroy made up for its disappointing opening match debacle last week with a 5-2 thrashing of Blessed John in the Men’s Under 19 of the ongoing 14th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.
Blessed John waxed hot early by going up 2-0 with just 12 minutes into the match. Jeffrey Pilapil immediately found the back of the net at the 10th minute and two minutes later, his teammate Rudy Miller Jr. contributed a goal of his own.
ANS was able to set up its plays with Rogelio Castellon Jr. finding a hole in Blessed John’s defense at the 31st minute of the ballgame. The first half ended with Blessed John leading by 2-1.
ANS continued to warm up with Jake Ricaplaza scoring the equalizer just five minutes into the second half.
With the match tied at 2-all, Castellon put ANS on top with a goal in the 63rd minute. Ricaplaza also added to his goal at the 70th minute.
Blessed John continued to find no answer to the onslaught until John Michael Gomorra put ANS further up with his contribution at the 76th minute making it 5-2 for ANS.

In the second match, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) and Don Bosco Boys Home (DBBH) ended their match in a 1-all draw.
Miguel Sa-a scored first for the Magis Eagles while Junie Dorimon leveled the match for DBBH.
Other SHS-AdC teams successfully hurdled their assignments with a 9-0 routing of Bright B in the Players 6; 6-0 whipping of Holy Infant School (HIS) in the Players 8; 8-0 demolition of Subangdaku Football Club (SFC) in the Boys 12; and 3-0 outsmarting of Child Learning Foundation (CLF).
Other winners in the Players 6 were San Roque Football Club (SRFC) and Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC). SRFC blanked Bright A, 3-0, and DBTC scored the same against Mactan Air Base Elementary School (MABES).
The other match in the category between Giuseppe FC and Children’s Paradise Montessori School (CPMS) ended in a 1-all draw.
In the Players 8, Bright edged Bright Minds Active Learning Village (BMALV), 1-0; DBTC 5 annihilated DBTC B, 10-0; Giuseppe FC thrashed CPMS, 13-0; and Canduman lorded over DBTC A, 9-0.
The match between DBTC 2 and DBTC has yet to be decided after both teams defaulted.
HIS did not go home winless as its Players 10 team blanked Center for International Education (CIE), 3-0.
Other teams winning their matches were SRFC B which won via default over Mandaue Technical Institute (MTI); Cebu International School (CIS) with a 5-0 outwitting of CPMS; DBTC 1 with a 9-1 spanking of BMALV; SRFC A with 9-2 slashing of DBTC 2 and Springdale with an 8-0 routing of CLF.
DBTC 3 and CIE 1 ended their match in a draw. DBTC 3 had a 1-all draw against SFC while CIE 1 had a 3-all match against MABES.
In the Boys 12, DBTC 1 reigned supreme over Cebu Eastern College (CEC), 3-0; while DBTC 2 demolished Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion – Mandaue (CIC-M), 7-0.
In the Boys 14, Blessed John, DBTC A and MTI inflicted the same 4-0 spanking on their opponents. Blessed John went up against Saint Augustine International School (SAIS) FC, DBTC A faced Springdale and MTI clashed with CIS.
