MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has vowed to conduct an immediate investigation into the killing of former Medellin town mayor in Cebu.

On Tuesday night, Mayor Ricardo Rodriguez Ramirez was shot dead by around 15 armed men inside a private hospital in Medellin, Cebu.

Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, director of Police Regional Office-7, already prompted the Medellin Municipal police station to investigate the incident and give justice to the victim’s family.

PNP Spokesperson Col. Bernard Banac said PNP will remain vigilant and ensure the safety of citizens in Cebu.

“The PNP assures the public that the peace and order situation in Cebu is under control and our forces there remain vigilant to prevent occurrence of crimes,” Banac said in a text message to reporters on Wednesday. (Editor: Jonathan P. Vicente)
