MANILA, Philippines—Incoming Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso gave a preview of his iron fist policy against erring drivers of public utility vehicles, warning them they risked losing their franchises to operate if they did not stop cutting trips.
Domagoso issued the warning some two weeks before he takes over the mayoral seat which he won by a landslide over pardoned plunder convict Joseph Estrada, who tried but failed to get another term as Manila mayor.
Domagoso said he would personally file cases at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board against drivers who cut trips.
“If they want to continue working, they should not cheat on our people in Manila,” Domagoso said in an interview at city hall. “For the fare they pay, they should be brought to their destinations,” he added.
Cutting trip refers to the practice of drivers to unload their passengers at an area still far from their destinations to be able to quickly return and pick up new batches of commuters. (Editor: Tony Bergonia)
