Groundbreaking rites were held at Nuvali Spine Road in Santa Rosa City, Laguna province, for the construction of the 18-kilometer Laguna section of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (Calax).

The Laguna segment is part of the 45-km closed-system tolled expressway connecting Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx).

The project will start from Cavitex in Kawit, Cavite, and end at the SLEx-Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna.

The P35.4-billion Calax aims to reduce travel time from Cavitex to SLEx from 1.5 hours to 45 minutes as well as improve competitiveness of Calabarzon as an investment destination.

It is seen to reduce traffic congestion particularly in Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway and Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road.

As of March this year, the Laguna segment is 30 percent complete.
