2 alleged drug pushers dead in Lucena

LUCENA CITY — An alleged drug pusher was killed in a buy-bust operation while another one was shot and killed by an unidentified gunman in two separate incidents here on Wednesday and Thursday.

Jerry Regio, 44, was killed in a reported shootout with anti-illegal drugs operatives after he allegedly sold “shabu” (crystal meth) to an undercover police officer in a transaction in Barangay 7 about 8 p.m. Wednesday, Colonel Ramil Montilla, Quezon police chief, said in a report.

When the suspect was about to be collared, he allegedly ran away, took a concealed improvised shotgun from his back and shot the police agent but missed his target.

One of the back-up policemen shot back and killed the suspect on the spot.

Authorities recovered a gun and a sachet of shabu worth P400 from the slain suspect.

In another incident, a certain “Nante” was gunned down by an unidentified assailant in the city’s downtown area in Barangay 4 about 2 a.m. Thursday.

Police said the victim was walking in the street when the gunman approached his target and shot him at close range.

The victim, which the police tagged as also allegedly involved in illegal drugs trade in the village, died on the spot. (EditorLeti Boniol)
