It’s another ‘budol-budol,’ Trillanes says of Duterte’s new promises

MANILA, Philippines — Outgoing Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Tuesday likened President Rodrigo Duterte’s latest promise to solve the country’s traffic woes to a “budol-budol” scam.

Aside from reducing the travel time from Cubao to Makati to only five minutes, Duterte also promised earlier to solve flights delays and cancellations within a month.

Sought for comment at a press conference in the Senate, Trillanes said: “Hindi ba tayo nadala sa three to six months?”

The senator was apparently referring to Duterte’s campaign promise to stop crime and illegal drugs in the country in his first three to six months in office.

“Kung budol-budol, ilang beses na tayong na budol-budol hindi pa rin tayo natuto,” Trillanes said.

“Budol-budol” is a term used for swindlers, who trick their victims to get money.

Trillanes recalled Duterte’s allegation that he had a bank account in Singapore. The Chief Executive, however, later admitted that he just invented the bank account number of the senator.

“Ano ba ‘yun, wala bang singilan tayo rito?” Trillanes asked.

He then called Duterte a “pathological liar,” who he said always gets away with his lies by diverting the issue. (Editor: Julie Espinosa)
