WATCH: Sedan catches fire on Edsa
(Updated, June 7, 4:23 p.m.) MANILA, Philippines — A sedan caught fire while traversing the southbound portion of Edsa corner Pasay Road occupying one lane of the major thoroughfare on Friday afternoon.
A video taken by a contributor aboard a passing vehicle showed dark smoke emerging from the open engine hood of the burning car which was parked at the inner lane beside the tracks of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 near Magallanes station. The car’s boot cover was also raised.
A Twitter alert from the Metro Manila Development Authority confirmed the incident that happened around 1:00 p.m. Traffic enforcers are already at the site, according to MMDA.
A Makati Central Police Station report later identified the driver of the bronze Hyundai Accent as Mr. Manolo Labor. The driver was heading to the airport coming from the University of the Philippines, Diliman when smoke suddenly came out of the car’s hood. Labor immediately alighted from the car and called for assistance.
The fire was declared out at 1:14 p.m. and no one was hurt during the incident, the report added. (Editors: Mike U. Frialde / Jonathan P. Vicente)
