PNP: 60 violent incidents recorded from Jan. 13 to June 6

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded a total of 60 violent incidents nationwide during the election period in 2019.

Data from the PNP showed that from January 13 to June 6, 51 election-related incidents (ERIs) were recorded during the pre-election period, eight during the day of the election, and one after the election.

PNP said the 2019 figure was 55 percent lower than the 133 incidents recorded during the same period in 2016.

Meanwhile, of the total of 113 victims of ERIs were reported in 2019, 23 were killed, 46 were wounded and 44 were unharmed.

Suspects, confiscated items

PNP figures from January 13 to June 5 showed that a total of 6,203 suspects were taken into police custody during the elections. The agency also confiscated 5,176 illegal firearms and seized 49,438 prohibited weapons.
