PNP: Celebration of Eid al-Fitr ‘generally peaceful’
MANILA, Philippines — The nationwide celebration of Eid al-Fitr was generally peaceful as there were no untoward incidents reported, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.
PNP spokesperson Bernard Banac said in a message to reporters that the police force will remain vigilant, despite the absence of untoward incidents.
“The PNP will remain vigilant and normal police functions will continue to prevent crimes and respond to any contingency and calls for assistance,” Banac said.
The Manila Police District’s Ermita police station reported that about 9,500 people participated in the dream festival titled “Eidl-Al-Fitr to the Fullest” at the Quirino Grandstand.
As early as 2 a.m., thousands of Muslims flocked to the venue to celebrate the end of Ramadan. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
