MANILA, Philippines – The initiative of teachers to transform an old comfort room, instead of a laboratory, into a faculty room drew the attention of netizens, as well as Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones, who said the move was “dramatic” and touching.”
A Facebook post showing an old restroom before and after it was transformed into a faculty room at the Bacoor National high School recently surfaced on social media.
“Tinignan namin yan. Ang choice ng teachers, dahil nangangailangan, malaki ang enrolment, nadelay ang budget natin, nadelay ang paggawa ng school buildings, they had their choice,” Briones said during an ambush interview after the school year 2019-2020 opening ceremony at Signal Village National High School in Taguig City.
“They could hold office in the laboratory rooms but of course it is more dramatic, it is more touching if you hold it in the toilets,” she added.
“After class syempre gusto ni teacher mapahinga kahit saglit, makapag relax naman… Saan siya titigil pansamantala??? Sa ilalim ng hagdan at dating CR.. Ang masaya nun sa bulsa pa niya galing ang pinagpaayos,” a caption of the post read.
“Kulang [na] nga ang sweldo, gagastusan pa nya ang sana ay maayos na faculty room…Kaya next time pag may parent na naghanap [sa] teacher, ang isasagot… ‘Hanapin nyo po s mga ilalim ng hagdan o cr!’” it added. /gsg
