MANILA, Philippines — A pilot and his student trainee were rescued Saturday after their training plane crashed in Comillas, Tarlac.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) said in a statement that a C172 type plane of Alpha Aviation crashed in Tarlac while on its way back to the Clark International Airport.

The pilot, Captain Irineo Manguba, requested an emergency landing at 9:44 a.m. citing “engine failure.”

Caap added that when the plane crashed in Comillas, Manguba requested for him and his Indian student Jeny Jerome to be rescued.
