Some Makati roads closed from Friday to Sunday

Commuters in Makati City should brace themselves for heavy traffic between Friday and Sunday noon as some roads will be closed for a procession and victory party.

An advisory from Makati City Hall said that traffic rerouting would be implemented in parts of J.P. Rizal Avenue and A.P. Reyes Avenue from 1 to 7 p.m. on Friday for the Flores de Mayo procession.

Participants will start at the city hall quadrangle and pass through Hormiga, Trabajo, Hippodromo Streets and A.P. Reyes Avenue toward the Globe Circuit Event Grounds.

Vehicles from Kalayaan Avenue that are headed for Rockwell and Guadalupe Nuevo may take the following routes:

Along N. Garcia Street, cross J.P. Rizal Avenue toward Antipolo Street, right on S. Osmeña Street, left on either E. Zobel Street or P. Burgos Street Extension (Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge Service Road), right on A. Mabini Street and left on J. P. Rizal Avenue toward destination.

Along N. Garcia Street, cross J.P. Rizal Avenue toward Antipolo Street, right turn on S. Osmeña Street, right turn on P. Burgos Street Extension (Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge Service Road), left on J. P. Rizal Avenue to normal route destination toward Edsa-Guadalupe.

For vehicles on J.P. Rizal Avenue bound for Makati City Hall and Delpan in Manila, a “stop and go” scheme will be implemented on A.P. Reyes Avenue to give way to the procession.

From 12:01 a.m. Friday until Sunday noon, the stretch of Makati Avenue from J.P. Rizal to Kalayaan Avenues will be closed for the “victory party” of winners in the local elections.

Alternate routes

Affected motorists may take the following alternate routes: Straight on J.P. Rizal Avenue (right turn for those coming from the Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge and straight for those coming from Rockwell-J.P. Rizal Avenue), then left on N. Garcia Street, cross Kalayaan Avenue, left on Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue, then right on Makati Avenue toward destination.

Straight on J.P. Rizal Avenue (right turn for those coming from the Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge and straight for those coming from Rockwell-J.P. Rizal Avenue), then left on Zapote Street, left on Kamagong Street; right on Ayala Avenue Extension, then cross Gil J. Puyat Avenue to Ayala Avenue toward destination in the Makati central business district (CBD).

For vehicles on Makati Avenue coming from the Makati CBD, Gil Puyat or Ayala Avenues, turn right on P. Burgos Street, cross Kalayaan Avenue intersection, cross J.P. Rizal Avenue intersection then head toward Mandaluyong City via bridge or turn left on J.P. Rizal Avenue to destination. A stop and go scheme will also be implemented on this route.
