DILG urges local execs to support Oplan Balik Eskwela

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Tuesday urged local chief executives to help the Department of Education (DepEd) in ensuring that the orderly opening of classes in June.

“Local execs are expected to work closely with DepEd to ensure that the school opening is as smooth and orderly as possible so that both students and teachers will be inspired to embark on this new learning journey,” DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said in a statement.

Año urged the local officials to deploy the police and force multipliers from villages along the roads leading to schools and near its gates.

Oplan Balik Eskwela, which runs from May 27 to June 7, is an annual initiative of DepEd to engage agencies, organizations, and other stakeholders in preparation for the coming school year.

It also aims to address problems, queries, and other concerns commonly encountered by the public at the start of the school year.

Through DILG Memorandum Circular 2019 – 78, Año likewise encouraged local officials to convene their Peace and Order Councils, Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC), and Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (LDRRMC) in preparation for the opening of the classes.

Año also encouraged local chief executives to assist in providing information and quick response, mobilize personnel to clean signages along roads leading to schools and assist the DepEd in preparing school facilities. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
