ZAMBOANGA CITY — Police arrested on Tuesday two suspects who allegedly lobbed a grenade inside the compound of a former barangay official’s house on Monday night.
Colonol Leonel Nicolas, commander of the Joint Task Force Zamboanga, said police had caught up with the brothers Rommel and Boboy Tumampal at Sitio Latap, Barangay Limpapa at past 12 a.m. Tuesday, two hours after a grenade was thrown at the house of former Barangay Chair Peregrino Falcasantos Macrohon.
Police suspected the brothers to have thrown the grenade at Macrohon’s house at Zone 1 in Tulungatung village at past 10 p.m. on Monday.
Police Captain Shellamae Chang, spokesperson of the Zamboanga City Police Office, said suspects aboard a motorcycle had slowed down and threw something at the front yard of the Macrohons at 10 p.m.
After two seconds, they heard a loud burst, Chang said.
Members of the explosives ordnance division processed the scene and recovered fragments and a safety lever of a hand grenade.
No one was reported injured.
Nicolas said the suspects left the motorbike they were riding.
It took about two hours for pursuing policemen to catch up with the suspects as Limpapa is more than 20 kilometers away from Tulungatung. (Editor: Leti Boniol)
