MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) lauded the Senior High School Voucher Program of the Department of Education (DepEd) for extending financial aid to qualified students, saying that such program would help ensure a better future for the country.
“The Commission on Human Rights lauds the Department of Education’s initiative to provide financial assistance to students in order to ease the cost of schooling,” CHR spokesman Jacqueline de Guia said in a statement.
“We recognize that this program is a step towards accessible education. It is a move forward in ensuring that the basic human right to education is afforded to all Filipinos,” she added.
Under the program, qualified students who have passed Grade 10 can receive vouchers amounting up to P22,500. These can be used in enrolling in public or private educational institutions.
Students may apply to be included in the program in person from May 26 to May 31 or online until June 2.
Meanwhile, students from public high schools are automatically included in the program.
“Education is essential in building a strong foundation for our future. It is necessary for progress and an important tool in empowering the youth of our nation,” De Guia said.
“For years, families have struggled in sending their children to schools. Hopefully, this initiative will have a big impact on the lives of the marginalized, and provide for those who need more. Let us continue to strengthen policies like this that is truly for the benefit of the Filipino people,” she added.
