MANILA, Philippines — Voting 16-0-1, the Senate has approved on third and final reading a bill granting a 25-year legislative franchise to Solar Para sa Bayan (SPSB) Corporation.
Solar Para sa Bayan Corp. (SPSB) is a solar energy provider founded by Leandro Leviste, son of Senator Loren Legarda.
The lone abstention came from Legarda.
Under its franchise, SPSB will construct, install, establish, operate and maintain distributable power technologies and mini-grid systems throughout the Philippines to improve access to sustainable energy.
The proposed franchise of SPSB, was contained in House Bill No. 8179, which was approved by the House of Representatives in December.
SPSB is a Filipino social enterprise aiming to serve Filipino communities by delivering affordable and reliable 24/7 power supply. (Editor: Gilbert S. Gaviola)
