A train conductor from Texas, United States is transforming his city for the better — one colorful mural at a time.
David Anguilu has found harmony in his job as a train operator and his pursuit of street art — a medium of communication he mastered before the English language, as per ABC 13 last May 18.
Anguilu was only 14 years old when he emigrated to Houston from Mexico. Having not known much of English, Anguilu turned to graffiti instead to express himself. These days, his striking murals can be seen along the tracks by those who travel by train.
“There’s a connection with my art and driving the train,” he said in the report. “It’s really nice to be able to be in the front seat, checking out how the city’s expanding and learning what’s coming to the city.”
Graffiti was not just a medium of expression for Anguilu, however, as it also helped him reconcile with his being both a local of Houston and a Mexican.
“I fell in love with it,” he added. “Graffiti really allowed me to feel comfortable being a Houstonian but also a Mexican.”
His once-hobby of painting walls has now turned into a long-standing passion for the art form. As per the report, Anguili has painted around 100 murals across the metropolis, while his other works can be seen in Paris, France and Mexico City. JB
