Road mishap kills 3, injures 3 in Lanao del Norte town

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte — Three passengers died while three others were seriously injured when the passenger tricycle they were riding collided with a car along the national highway of Kakai Renabor, Tubod, Lanao del Norte at around 3:30 p.m. on May 21, police said.

A report released by Police Major Rodolfo Dongiapon, Tubod police chief, said that the three fatalities, who were all residents of Kolambugan town, were identified as Samia Pasan Montila, 30, married, a resident of Purok Mentring, Barangay Maigo of the town; Charlyn Mondido Sumagang, 33, married, of Purok 6 of Barangay Libertad; and Amenola Hadji Latip, married, of Purok 6, Barangay Manga.

Montila died before reaching the provincial hospital in Baroy town while the two others perished minutes after reaching the same hospital, the report added.

The three other passengers who suffered serious injuries were KJenelyn Filipino Sayre, 31, married, of Poblacion, Magsaysay; Mohammad Jalil Pasan Montila, 9,of Purok Mentring, Maigo, Kolambugan; and Antonina Pang-an Balatero, 55, married, of Purok 5, Manga, Kolambugan.

Initial police traffic investigation disclosed that a Toyota Sedan was travelling from Tubod proper going to Kolambugan when it collided with the tricycle. The tricycle then went out of control and hit an incoming Nissan pick-up, throwing out all the six passengers on board.

In the ensuing chaos, the driver of the Toyota sedan managed to flee by riding another vehicle, a white Toyota Revo, leaving the Toyota sedan behind, said the report.

Police Master Sergeant Mark Debb Namuag, the case investigator, said in the report that they were able to trace the owner of the Toyota sedan through its plate number, AA 1884. It was found to be registered under the name of Nicanor Andal Garcia, with Fairview, Quezon City as his given address.

The driver of the blue Nissan Pick-up (FOZ 853), identified Prince Alexander Umpa Caorong, has submitted himself to the police for investigation, the report said.

Dongiapon said they have alerted the Highway Patrol Group to determine if the Toyota sedan was a stolen car since the registered owner is from Fairview, Quezon City.
