Norway’s Princess Martha Louise reveals relationship with American shaman
Princess Martha Louise of Norway opened up about her romantic partner, an American shaman, last May 13.
The daughter of Norway’s King Harald V and Queen Sonja introduced her boyfriend Shaman Durek (real name:Durek Verrett) with portraits of them in a lengthy Instagram post last week.

“When you meet your twin flame, you know. I have been lucky enough to have met mine. @shamandurek has changed my life, like he does with so many,” she said.
“He has made me realize that unconditional love actually exists here on this planet,” she wrote. “He embraces all of me without question or fear. He makes me laugh more than anyone, has the most profound wisdom to share and all the bits in between from the diversity of his being.”
She also had a response ready for critics: “It is not up to you to choose for me or to judge me. I don’t choose my man to satisfy any of you or the norms or boxes you have chosen in your mind for me to be in… I choose from love.”

“This is what I feel from @princessmarthalouise, pure acceptance of my multidimensional self. Not just the Shaman, however the woman in me, the strong man in me, the little boy, ET, the jaguar, the scientist and the angel and more. All loved by this Goddess, who I honor and worship.”
According to his website, Shaman Durek is a “6th generation shaman” who “comes from a long lineage of spiritual practitioners including ministers, oracles and healers.”
The couple embarked on a tour in Norway together called “The Princess and the Shaman” on May 20 and 21 to deliver talks about spirituality.
Princess Martha was previously married to author Ari Behn, with whom she has three children. They divorced in 2017 after 14 years of marriage. She is fourth in line to the throne.
The Norwegian royal family has a history of so-called controversial relationships: Queen Sonja was a commoner and dated Harald V in secret for nine years before they had permission to marry.
King Harald’s only son, Prince Haakon, also married a commoner, Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby, whom he met at a rock festival in Norway. She was thought to be unsuitable as a royal because she was a single mom and college dropout, but they married anyway in 2001 and have two children. /ra
