Bus rams jeepney in Quezon, one killed, 15 injured
LUCENA CITY, Philippines – A passenger was killed and some 15 others were injured when the jeepney they were on was hit by a passenger bus in Lopez town in Quezon province on Sunday, police said.
The victims were traveling towards the Lopez town proper on the jeepney driven by Rey Losa when they were accidentally bumped by a Manila-bound passenger bus at an intersection in Barangay Danlagan at about 12:25 p.m., Major Elizabeth Capistrano, Quezon police public information officer, said in a report Monday.
The impact caused the jeepney to turn turtle on the middle of the road.
Rescuers rushed the injured to the Magsaysay Memorial Hospital and Saint Jude Hospital at the town center.
Police identified the bus driver as Eduardo Retal Boyano.
At about 5 p.m., a relative of Haide Bondesto Caliso, 55, one of the seriously hurt, reported to the police that she had died of her injuries, Major Noel Divino, Lopez police chief, said in a follow-up report.
