Outgoing Oriental Mindoro governor wins congressional seat

CITY OF CALAPAN, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) proclaimed outgoing three-termer Oriental Mindoro Governor Alfonso Umali Jr (LP) as the province’s second district representative.

Umalis was proclaimed around 10 p.m. with 77,198 votes over rivals Manny Andaya (PDPLBN) with 64,040 votes and Ed Janda (LAKAS) with 13,259 votes.

The second district covers the municipalities of Gloria, Pinamalayan, Bansud, Bongabong, Mansalay, Roxas and Bulalacao.

The total number of registered voters is 231,200 but those who actually voted total only 175,589. (Editor: Cenon B. Bibe Jr.)
