MANILA, Philippines — Korina Sanchez recalled the quiet Tuesday morning she and husband Mar Roxas shared a day after the May 13 elections.
Partial and unofficial results show Roxas, who ran for the Senate under the opposition slate, in 16th place – leaving him out of the “Magic 12” dominated by pro-administration candidates.
He has garnered 9,657,784 votes according to the partial and unofficial count of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV). A total of 96.23% of election returns have been transmitted as of 10:10 a.m. Wednesday.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, the “Rated K” host shared a collage of pictures of her husband and their twins Pepe and Pilar.
Roxas’ picture bore the statement: “We’re a great people. Our people sacrifice. They do without, so that they can give to their children all that they can. Our people deserve so much more. That’s what this journey is all about — it’s giving our people their due.”
Sanchez wrote, “This morning my husband Mar went into the nursery and announced so excited to me that Pepe is talking to him, and Pilar needs a diaper change.”
“I was on my phone waiting on results. ‘Don’t bother yourself with that,’ he said. We played with the twins all morning and now ordered pizza for lunch.”
“Politics is a game. You play the game hoping for a win so you can honestly serve and correct what needs to be. Make the world a better place than when we found it. Can’t do much about how other players play the game, or what other motivations there could be.”
“Yesterday our twins Pepe and Pilar turned three months old. We can only wish they grow up in a Godly country fit for Godly human beings,” she said.
“Meantime, we soldier on. Until we get as close as possible to what’s best for the country, and for our children. The work continues.”
Roxas came in second to President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2016 presidential elections with 9.9 million votes. (Editor: Cenon B. Bibe Jr.)
