MANILA, Philippines – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said Wednesday that she cried after her hometown delivered a 12-0 win for the senatorial candidates of her Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) party.
“I am bowed and humbled. I am not a person who cries easily but when it was definite that Davao City delivered a 12-0 for Senators of HNP, the tears flowed and the sobbing followed,” Duterte-Carpio wrote on Instagram with a photo of her kneeling inside a church.
She quoted a Bible verse, saying “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.”
The younger Duterte, who also won her reelection bid as mayor, said the 12-0 win was “a first in our city’s history.”
“Daghang Salamat sa inyong tanan, I have said that I feel alone everyday stressing over making sure Davao is ok but when I need am in distress, Dabawenyos carry me on their back,” she said.
