Joy Belmonte is new Quezon City mayor

MANILA, Philippines — Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte is the next Mayor of Quezon City.

Belmonte was proclaimed mayor on Tuesday morning after the Quezon City Board of Canvassers received a 100% transmission rate of election returns.

Based on the latest tally of the Quezon City Board of Canvassers, Belmonte, running under the Quezon City-based Serbisyo ng Bayan Party (SBP), garnered 469,480 votes.

Meanwhile, Belmonte’s opponent 1st Dist. Rep. Vincent “Bingbong” Crisologo of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) received 366,215 votes.

Belmonte’s running mate Councilor Gian Sotto was also proclaimed as Vice Mayor after receiving 382,293 votes.  On the other hand, Sotto’s rival Jopet Sison received 343,473 votes.  (Edited by: Mike U. Frialde)
