MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday sees no need to extend voting hours despite the delayed opening of polling precincts in several areas nationwide.
“There is no need for additional voting hours because the voting hours are already flexible. That extension is not being talked about now,” Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in a press briefing.
Jimenez said noted that those within 30 meters of the polling precinct by 6 p.m. will still be allowed to vote.
He also said that extending the voting hours would only benefit those who would come late.
“Come on, do you really want to reward those who come late? Look, na delay tayo. Pero ‘pag andiyan ka na, andiyan ka na. Magtutuloy-tuloy ang proseso para sa ‘yo, no matter how long it is (There were delays. But if you make it to the precinct the voting process will continue),” Jimenez said.
