MANILA, Philippines – A cockroach found itself in a spotlight when it landed and crawled on the shirt of President Rodrigo Duterte while he was delivering a speech at a campaign rally in Bohol on Wednesday night.
An hour and a half into his speech, Duterte was unceremoniously stopped by the pest that appeared to have landed on his back and crept towards the President’s upper arm as he was praising his senatorial candidates, particularly Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos.
Duterte’s aide tried to brush away the cockroach using a folder but the pest dashed its way to the front. It got the President’s attention and eventually, the unfazed Chief Executive took matters into his own hand, flicking the insect down to the floor and went on with his speech as nothing happened.
He, however, did not let the opportunity pass without infusing curt humor in Bisaya.
“Liberal ‘yan. Sigurado na ‘yan, klaro sa likod,” Duterte said of the cockroach. /kga/ac
