Grab delays implementation of P50 cancellation fee

MANILA, Philippines —Ride-hailing firm Grab said on Wednesday it will not yet impose on its customers the P50 cancellation fee pending guidelines from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Grab Philippines earlier announced it will impose a P50 cancellation fee on those who will cancel a booking after five minutes of confirmation or those who do not show up at their pick-up points after five minutes.

“Grab and the other TNCs (transportation network companies) agreed to maintain the status quo as requested by the Board, until appropriate guidelines are issued by the LTFRB with the assistance of the TWG,” Nicka Hosaka, Grab public affairs manager, said in a statement.

Hosaka said the decision came after Grab representatives and other TNCs met with the LTFRB last Tuesday.

She added a technical working group (TWG), composed of representatives of other TNCs, was created to discuss passenger and driver cancellation policies.

Grab Philippines, meanwhile, clarified that it has not yet charged passengers or imposed the cancellation fees even though the intended implementation of the policy was in May. It said the actual implementation of the policy was set to start next week.

“We will provide further updates as discussions progress,” Hosaka said. /jpv
