MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.7 earthquake rocked Eastern Samar on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its updated earthquake bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake hit 37 kilometers (km) southeast of San Julian, Eastern Samar, at 11:00 a.m.

Phivolcs upgraded the quake’s magnitude from 4.5 to 4.7.

Phivolcs said the tremor is an aftershock of the magnitude 6.5 quake that occurred last April 23 in Eastern Samar.
