UPDATE: Magnitude 4.7 quake jolts Eastern Samar
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.7 earthquake rocked Eastern Samar on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its updated earthquake bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake hit 37 kilometers (km) southeast of San Julian, Eastern Samar, at 11:00 a.m.
Phivolcs upgraded the quake’s magnitude from 4.5 to 4.7.
Phivolcs said the tremor is an aftershock of the magnitude 6.5 quake that occurred last April 23 in Eastern Samar.

Article continues after this advertisementAn Intensity IV was felt over San Julian, Maydolong, and Borongan City in Eastern Samar, while an Intensity III was experienced over Gen. McArthur in Eastern Samar and Catbalogan City in Samar.
Lawaan, Eastern Samar and Tacloban City, meanwhile, registered an Intensity II, Phivolcs added.
The temblor had a depth of 5 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.
No aftershocks or damage could be expected from the temblor, Phivolcs said. /muf
