IN a sport slowly dominated by younger legs, veteran bowler Docdoc Gothong proved that he still has what it takes to be a champion.
Last weekend, Gothong beat much younger rivals to capture the Cebu Tenpin Bowling Association (CETBA) Bowler of the Year crown by downing 1,244 pinfalls in the six-game tournament competed by top local and national bowlers at the SM City Cebu Bowling lanes.
Gothong opened his campaign on searing fashion by downing 441 pinfalls in the first two games to grab the preliminary lead. He then kept a steady performance the rest of the way to capture the coveted crown.
Coming in at second place is the multi-titled Jake Yap with 1,234 pinfalls. Yap was just one pin behind Gothong after five rounds with a running score of 1,033 pinfalls but faltered in the sixth and final game.
September Bowler of the Month Salve Tesio rounded off the top three by scoring 1,201 pinfalls. May Bowler of the Month Cristilyn Tan (1,187) and Gefre Buyco (1,175) finished fourth and fifth.
Sixth to 10th placers were Aui Padawan (1168), Beth Ngo (1,138), Ruel Zuñiga (1,124), January bowler of the month Emie Osada (1,102) and Nestor Longcanaya (1,101). /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
