Deal inked for rewiring of Cebu Cathedral Museum

The Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) has entered into a memorandum of agreement to help preserve the Cebu Cathedral Museum.

Last Nov. 25, Veco executive vice president and chief operating officer Jaime Jose Aboitiz signed an agreement with museum director retired Rev. Msgr. Carlito V.

Pono for a rewiring project involving the replacement of old substandard electrical wires of the heritage repository of valuable old religious artifacts in Cebu.

The replacement of wires is designed to prevent the incidence of fire, especially that the foundation of the museum building is made of century-old logs.

Msgr. Pono said that the museum’s construction is irretraceable.

The building was completed between 1730 and to 1760 and has never undergone an energy audit or electric inspection.

“This is the first time it (museum) will undergo electrical rewiring. For years, the museum has been considered fire hazard, where most of its religious artifacts are temporary placed in the Archbishop’s Palace,” he said.

The rewiring project will be completed in the three months.
