Duterte speaks of Nograles legacy
MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte remembered on Sunday the legacy left by former House Speaker Prospero Nograles as he expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
“I would like to extend my deep sympathies and condolences to the family of Former House Speaker Prospero Nograles. I am deeply saddened to hear his demise,” Duterte said in a statement.
“His legacy as a leader who used his voice to speak on behalf of the Filipino people will continue to inspire other politicians and leaders who are committed to serving their countrymen,” he added.
Duterte then wished for family members to remain steadfast despite the passing of Nograles.
“May he find eternal peace and repose in the arms of our loving Father in heaven. It is also my prayer that the Lord Almighty ease your pain and that you will find solace and strength during this difficult time,” he said.
Nograles died on Saturday at the age of 71. The cause of his death however was not released by the family.
He served as Speaker from 2008 to 2010, during the administration of then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who now holds the House post.
The wake of Nograles will be held at Chapel 1 of Heritage Park in Fort Bonifacio, Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.
Public viewing will be from May 5 to May 6, as his remains will then be flown to Davao on May 7. /cbb
