MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Saturday expressed its condolences to the relatives of former House Speaker Prospero Nograles, who died on Friday at the age of 71.
“The Palace is saddened by the demise of former Speaker Prospero C. Nograles and wishes to express its deepest sympathies and condolences to his bereaved wife, Rhodora, and son, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, as well as his siblings and their families,” presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.
“Former Speaker Nograles was a pride of Mindanao. He was one of the leading lights of the political leaders in Mindanao,” he added. “Former Speaker Nograles will certainly be missed by his loved ones, friends and constituents. May eternal rest grant unto him and perpetual light shine upon him.”
Nograles served as House Speaker from 2008 to 2010, during the administration of then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who is now and now House representative of the 2nd District of Pampanga.
