CEBU CITY — A “Gift of Education” awaits the four new lawyers from the University of San Carlos here who broke into the Top 10 in the 2018 Bar Examinations.
Marcley Augustus Natu-el (second placer), Mark Lawrence Badayos (third) Jebb Lynus Cane (ninth) and Alan Joel Pita (10th) will receive lifetime scholarship from their alma mater.
Recipients of the lifetime scholarship grants can nominate a scholar—-whether a relative or not, who may choose any course he or she wishes to enroll in at the university, said lawyer Joan Largo, dean of the USC College of Law.
When the scholar finishes the program, she added, the Bar placer could nominate another scholar.
Largo said they were elated that four Carolinians got into the top ten in the 2018 Bar examinations.
“It’s always been hard work, faith in God, faith in oneself in USC’s training. In all honesty and modesty aside, we thought of them making in the top 10. Our graduates are potential topnotchers,” she said in a press conference on Friday.
“This says so much of our faculty and the support of the administration. We will not stop. There is always a room for improvement,” she added.
In the 2016 Bar exam, USC graduate Karen Mae Calam became the first law graduate from Cebu to clinch the top spot in what is considered the toughest licensure examinations in the country.
Three other Carolinians joined Calam in the top 10 in the 2016 Bar exams.
In 2017, USC produced three more bar Bar placers.
To date, USC, the oldest university in Cebu and one of the top-performing law schools in the country, has produced about 29 top placers in the Bar exams.
