‘Concerned citizens’ protest vs Brillantes at Senate

MANILA — Óver a hundred “concerned citizens” carrying banners against Elections chairman Sixto Brillantes rallied outside the Senate on Wednesday.

The gathering of was held in time for the confirmation hearing of Brilanntes at the powerful Commission on Appointments.

“Political operator, palayasin sa Comelec,” one of the paper-made streamers read.

A certain Myrna Jilbuena, who spoke for one of the groups, said the protesters came from different parts of Metro Manila such as Tondo, Manila and Taguig City.

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, husband of Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, has publicly aired his objection to the appointment of Brillantes.

But Jilbuena quickly clarified that not all of them came from Taguig and that they have a valid reason in rallying against the Comelec chief.

“Mula nang umupo si Sixto Brillantes, hindi na maganda ang palakad sa Comelec,” she said.

“Maraming politicians syang pinapanigan, halos mga kakampi nya,” she added.
