Mild quakes hit Surigao del Norte anew
DAVAO CITY–A fresh wave of mild tremblors struck General Luna town in Surigao del Norte this morning, May 2, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The magnitude 4 quake, the strongest measured in the day, was recorded at 2:50 a.m. about 64 kilometers southeast of General Luna. Its origin has a depth of 10 kilometers.
It was one of the five mild to moderate quakes recorded by Phivolcs in the area between 12 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.
None of the quakes have significant intensities, or could be felt on the ground.
Phivolcs said no damage and aftershocks were expected from the earthquake.
The state seismic bureau has earlier recorded a series of earthquakes since a 5.5-magnitude quake jolted the vicinity of General Luna on April 26. By 5 a.m. of April 30, the number of small to moderate tremors recorded in the area has reached 728, Phivolcs said.
