MANILA, Philippines — Senator Panfilo Lacson is not closing his door on the possibility of running for the presidency in 2022 but on one condition: “Give me a clear chance of winning.”
In 2004, Lacson ran for presidency but he lost to then President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The senator said he again “attempted” to try his luck in 2016 but did not push through because his numbers were low.
“So when people talk to me about the possibility of running in 2022, ang balik ko na lang sa kanila, I have only one requirement, I’m not closing the door but I have only one requirement, give me a clear chance of winning ,” Lacson said told ABS-CBN News Channel on Thursday.
The senator responded to a question about the possibility of him running for higher office in 2022 as there are people who think he could be the next president.
“I become more pragmatic e because after all these years in politics as a senator, I’ve won three times, I’ve lost one presidential campaign, you become more practical…” Lacson went on.
“So yun lagi ang sinasagot ko. If you are encouraging or urging me to run, I’ve only one requirement. Show me that I have a clear chance of winning,” he said. /muf
