Surigao fisherman finds 16 bricks of suspected cocaine

MANILA, Philippines — A fisherman turned over to the police some 20 kilos of suspected cocaine worth about P100 million after finding these along the shoreline of Lingig town in the province of Surigao del Sur, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported.

In a report on Wednesday, the police said Jolan Basadre Pucot, 25, found 16 bricks of the suspected narcotics which he handed over to authorities Tuesday night.

Pucot reportedly found the suspected cocaine along the shores of Barangay Handamayan, some 20 kilometers from the Lingig police station.

Police said that with a kilo of cocaine costing about P5.3 million, the cocaine found by Pucot could be worth P106 million.

The barangay chair of Handamayan, Jemuel Quiobe, accompanied the fisherman in turning over the bricks to the police. /cbb
