Comelec: Proclamation of winning senators ‘roughly within 2 weeks’ after May 13

MANILA, Philippines — Winning senators in this year’s midterm polls may be proclaimed “roughly within two weeks” after May 13, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Tuesday.

Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in a press conference they already have set a “tentative date” for the declaration of the 12 victorious senatorial aspirants.

At the same time, Jimenez said proclamation of winners in the local elections may be “expected very quickly.”

“At the very lowest level, it is expected to happen within 24 to 36 hours (after the election). A little higher than that about 72 hours,” the Comelec official said.

“Meron na kaming tentative date for the proclamation of senators. But it’s roughly within two weeks from (the end of the) voting,” he added.

On May 13, Election Day, more than 61 million registered voters are expected to flock to their designated polling precincts and cast their vote for 12 senators and respective mayor, vice mayor, representative, and councilors, among other local elective positions.

Polling precincts will open as early as 6 a.m. and will be closed at 6 p.m., Comelec said.
